I was born in Alberta and have lived here practically my whole life. I am an electrician and had a contracting company for 25 years. My wife Cheryl and myself currently live in Rosebud, near Drumheller, and I am semi-retired. Our 2 adult kids also live in Alberta. Over the years I have become so aware of the disadvantages within Alberta, and Western Canada in general. My first realization of this was during federal elections. As a child, I would hear my parents talk about how the eastern vote decides who the government will be.
That idea stayed with me and over the years I saw other examples of ‘western disadvantage’. I didn’t understand how that could happen in the great nation of Canada. I am a person who strives to see both sides of everything and look for solutions that will work for the people. However, I have found that both historically, and to this very day, there does not seem to be a solution for the West within Canada.
I realize that we, as Albertans, are entitled to a fair deal within the Canadian Constitution ONLY if our elected provincial leaders will fight for it. If we don’t raise our voices, we will always be under the thumb of the federal government.
For this reason, I support the goal for Alberta Independence! I am looking forward to working with The Independence Party (TIP) to make this a reality and to work with Albertans on the issues that concern them right where they live!
